Due to the fact that we have a number of buses that are either full or extremely close to full each day, the Licking Valley Local Schools Transportation Department has a policy that all requests for bus passes for students to be dropped at locations other than their regular stops will be approved only in emergency situations. Unfortunately, a request to have your child go home at the end of the day with a friend does not constitute an emergency situation. It would be unfair to allow students to ride home with friends on buses that are not full while students on full buses are not able to, so this policy is in effect for ALL buses. Ohio Pupil Transportation Safety Rules
Regulation 3301-83-08

School Bus Safe-Riding Rules:

• Pupils should arrive at the bus stop before the bus is scheduled to arrive. (We recommend 3-4 minutes prior to the scheduled pick up time.)
• Pupils must wait in a location clear of traffic and away from the bus stops.
• Behavior at school bus stops must not threaten life, limb, or property of any individual.
• Pupils must go directly to an available or assigned seat. (Local procedure instructs the driver to assign seats to all students on each route.)
• Pupils must remain seated, keeping aisles and exits clear.
• Pupils must observe classroom conduct and obey the driver promptly and respectfully.
• Pupils must not use profane language.
• Pupils must refrain from eating and drinking on the bus except as required for medical reasons. (Please notify the transportation office in advance.)
• Pupils must not use tobacco on the bus.
• Pupils must not have alcohol or drugs in their possession on the bus except for prescription medication required for a student.
• Pupils must not throw or pass objects on, from, or into the bus.
• Pupils may carry on the bus only objects that can be held in their laps. (This includes musical instruments & school projects.)
• Pupils must leave or board the bus at locations to which they have been assigned unless they have parental and administrative authorization to do otherwise.
• Pupils must not put head or arms out of the bus windows.

The Licking Valley Schools Transportation Department handles daily transportation to and from school each day for an average of 1,135 students. Our fleet consists of 26 buses, 6 of which are spares. Our oldest bus was purchased in 2010, and our newest bus was purchased in 2025. The bus with the most miles currently has 227,766. We have a total of 22 bus routes each day, consisting of 19 High School, Middle School, and Elementary, and 1

Handicapped, Special Education, and Preschool. We have one school van/ and a Dodge Charger. During the 2024-2025 school year the van ran a total of 27,777 miles and the Sawmill Road vehicle ran a total of 32,711 miles. Our bus fleet runs an average of 2,303 miles per day, for an annual average of 414,540 miles. During the 2024-2025 school year our fleet also ran trips totaling 26,319 miles for the following purposes:
